CAMPINAS, Brazil – Aviagen^® recently participated in the Livestock Congress in San José, Costa Rica, held on May 6 and 7. The event brought together poultry, feed and pork industry associations, creating an opportunity for poultry producers, industry professionals and suppliers to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments in animal protein production.

During the congress, the Aviagen Latin America team shared practical poultry management insight tailored to the needs of chicken producers across Costa Rica.

Incubation Specialist Guillermo Reyes presented on “The Effect of the Hatchery on Chick Quality,” highlighting the importance of hatchery management for chick welfare, livability and long-term flock performance.

“The hatchery plays a key part in ensuring successful outcomes for chick welfare and performance, and careful management at this stage is essential for livability and disease resistance, helping alleviate risks while supporting production efficiency and economic sustainability,” explained Reyes.

Henry Rivas, Technical Services Manager for Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean (CAME) explored with the congress “Broiler management in hot weather.”
