Knowledge-sharing event brings global expertise to champion producers across the poultry value chain

CAMPINAS, Brazil – Delivering consistent flock results while advancing welfare and sustainability requires every stage of production to work together. To explore the management practices that support this goal, more than 180 poultry industry professionals gathered in Campana, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, on June 23 for Aviagen's^® Knowledge Without Borders seminar.

The event examined how decisions made at each stage influence the next, highlighting approaches that help producers realize their birds' genetic potential while advancing animal welfare and sustainable production. Together, these strategies strengthen producers' ability to provide the affordable, nutritious chicken that families across Argentina rely on.

According to Osvaldo Bolinaga, Aviagen Director of Technical Services for South America excluding Brazil (SAEB), helping customers translate knowledge into results is at the heart of the program.

Breeding progress and flock management

Santiago Avendaño, Aviagen Global Director of Genetics, shared updates on the ongoing development of the Ross 308 AP bird and the breeding approach that balances bird welfare, sustainability and flock productivity. Rodrigo D'Amen, Aviagen SAEB Technical Services Manager, explored key considerations for successful breeder management, while Jorge Amado, Aviagen Regional Technical Manager for Latin America, shared recommendations for breeder male management to promote fertility and longevity.

Managing seasonal challenges for flock success

The afternoon sessions examined incubation and environmental management, two areas that can have a lasting impact on flock success. Guillermo Reyes, incubation specialist with Aviagen, Inc., explored the factors that influence chick quality and early development, showing how decisions made during incubation can influence birds well beyond hatch.

Marcus Briganó, Aviagen SAEB and CAME (Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean) Technical Services Manager, addressed one of the region's key seasonal challenges: maintaining the right housing environment during the winter months. He shared ventilation and environmental management strategies to keep welfare flocks and efficient use of resources.

Santiago Lovera, Aviagen SAEB Technical Services Manager, highlighted management practices that contribute to flock uniformity and strong broiler performance, while nutritionist Ines Rodrigues discussed feeding strategies to enhance chicken feed efficiency and welfare. 

Participants exchanged ideas with Aviagen's international team, reinforcing the role of collaboration and knowledge sharing in breeding customer success across the poultry value chain.
